Does Your Church Pull Me In?

When was the last time you needed to find a church to attend?  For many of us, that occasion doesn’t come up very often.  Nonetheless, that’s not an easy assignment.  But the churches that are chosen are not necessarily based on preaching or worship style.  The majority of us choose our house of worship by what happens to us within the first 10 minutes of our experience.
Church environments can either be uncomfortable to newcomers or warm and friendly.  The latter is really a magnetism that pulls people in, making them feel wanted and that they are the reason the church exists in their community.  One of the primary indicators of healthy church life is hospitality.  When we as Christ-followers have a proper perspective about others around us, a servant’s heart will be present.  But that doesn’t just automatically happen.  We have to be taught that proper perspective.  And, when we are taught to love practically, we learn what it means to reach out.  Being hospitable isn’t just a gift that some have, but an environment that is deliberately created by spiritual leadership.  When our natural tendency is to draw inward and serve our own interests, teaching has to be aggressive and unapologetic.  So, don’t just assume your church is friendly; build a worship experience that centers around Christ and His unconditional love for people.  And, never let another person ever walk out of your church without a warm reach, a friendly exchange and a helpful attitude…to pull them in for good.

What does your church need to consider in hospitality this week before the next worship experience begins?
