Content with the Current

Have you ever wanted to be doing something else within your organization or career?  All of us have been there to some degree.  Wanting something different is not necessarily a bad thing.  But the danger lies in where that desire can take us.  What you dwell on over time becomes your state of mind.  If you constantly think on where you wish you were, your potential and effectiveness wanes for where you are presently.  And, that’s the point: you can’t be a viable member of the team if you aren’t present.  I’ve seen both sides and I’ve been both places.  This phrase has been strong in my heart lately: be a good steward of the present season.  When we embrace our particular place by having a “go-at-it” attitude and a team mindset, we engage with something to contribute; more importantly, we honor God!  Consider these words: “Look here, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.’ How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. What you ought to say is, ‘If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.’ Otherwise you are boasting about your own plans, and all such boasting is evil” (James 4:13-16).  Hey…occasionally, the need is to hang your head out the window and enjoy the ride!

So, how can you better embrace your place and engage at a new level?

great thoughts. Thanks for writing. Lewis writed in Screwtape how the Devil's Goal is to get us worrying about the future or regretting the past. God wants us in the present moment.
