The Gateway is Prayer

The other day, I passed again a couple on the side of the road who were standing by a marker where someone undoubtedly died in a car accident.  The first time I passed, there was a tug to stop and pray with them, but I didn’t go with it.  The next time I passed and felt the tug, I turned around, parked on a side street and walked across to where they were.  I said briefly that I had noticed them there before, but didn’t stop.  I then proceeded to ask if I could pray with them.  They were very open as tears filled their eyes.  It was a cool moment that didn’t take really much time at all.  Today, I’m thanking the Holy Spirit for that second chance and challenged to do it more as a lifestyle.
Prayer is a gateway that is available to all of who believe in a God who hears and answers.  And, most people are open to it.  Here are some very simple but possibly overlooked suggestions to embracing this method of reaching out to others:  (1) Keep your eyes and ears open to the world around you.  (2) Ask others how you might pray for them.  (3) Take time to pray for them right then.  (4)  Make the prayer simple, short and sincere.  (5) And, if you frequent that particular place or work with them, ask how things are going since you prayed together.  Hey, be encouraged to walk through this open door.  It could be their miracle in waiting, but definitely the Presence they need in their life today!
