One of the greatest enemies of effective leadership is assumption. Therefore, leaders who anticipate productivity and excellence in their organizations must not take it sitting down. Desk-driven management is nothing more than pseudo influence. On-purpose leaders lead by walking around.
Here are a few suggestions:
- Get to know who you are leading.
- Become familiar with what and who they are leading.
- Experience where they are leading.
This relational style can only happen by maintaining a reach outside your office. You can’t expect what you don’t inspect. Meet them where they are instead of asking them to come to you. Nothing says leadership like the presence of a leader! So, walk it out…in the hallways and among those you lead. Don’t take your significant role sitting down!
