It's been a few years ago, not sure exactly when it happened... I guess it was on one of the trips that we take to Dallas throughout the year to see Dad and Mom. At any rate, on one of those occasions, Dad and I were in his garage looking through some boxes full of childhood memories. I noticed an old ladder leaning up against a file cabinet and asked him about it. He said it was a ladder he had owned for a long time...and then offered for me to pack it up and take it home when we left. Of course I tried to talk him out of that offer, but no persuading him. As a matter of fact, he said that I needed it more than he did. Well...I've taken good use of that old wooden ladder. Not too long ago I was up changing some outside lights when I noticed an inscription written on the very top of the ladder that led me to believe that Dad had it in his possession way back before he married. Last week as I was preparing some thoughts welling up in me for Sunday morning's teaching, something quite profound dropped into my spirit...and it had everything to do with that old wooden ladder. Dad really wanted me to have that ladder...probably for at least a couple of reasons: It had been his for a long time, and the sentimental value was there, so he wanted me to have it. Secondly, it served him well over the years doing the odd jobs that required some height. None of this would really mean a great deal to blog about without the impression of the Holy Spirit. And, that's just it... It was the message of heaven I received: Darren, just like your Dad wanted you to have a tool that would give you some height, the Father wants you to go higher...to see things from a perspective that He has enjoyed for eternity. Use the Tool of His Word with the promises that are meant to be fulfilled in your life. Stay encouraged and hope higher.
Hey, the Father wants you to see things from His perspective, too. So, yea, go ahead...climb the ladder and hope higher.
"Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:31
