Book Review and Giveaway - "Wild Goose Chase" by Mark Batterson

I am a lover of books...love to read them, skim them, go to stores where there's lots of them, own them, borrow them, lend them out...and recommend one when it's brought special challenge to my life personally. There's one that fits that category in a big way. "Wild Goose Chase" by Mark Batterson, is a collection of thoughts centered around following the adventurous lead of the Holy Spirit. Mark, in my opinion, is fit to write such a challenge as he has been led to start a church in Washington D.C. - National Community Church - one of the most innovative churches in America. I have been personally inspired by his story and walk of faith. "Wild Goose Chase" (which becomes available in stores today, August 19th) is an easy yet profound read with illustrative and allegorical qualities that can keep any reader connected, entertained, engaged. With stories from his personal experience of following the eventful journey of the Holy Spirit to the ancient examples of biblical figures that continue to bring a sense of stretch to the natural mindset, Mark graciously and deliberately is used by God to sell us on the concept of living a life in step with the Spirit. He writes, “Celtic Christians had a name for the Holy Spirit–An Geadh-Glas, or ‘the Wild Goose.’ The name hints at mystery. Much like a wild goose, the Spirit of God cannot be tracked or tamed." One of my favorite chapters is what Mark titles as "Eight-Foot Ceilings" where he shares the adventurous-life example of Abraham. Mark writes, "It is easy to read right past this story and think nothing of it. God promised Abraham that his descendants would be as numerous as the stars in the sky. So what? But what God did is just as significant as what God said. Did you catch it? '[God] took [Abraham] outside.' Abraham was holed up inside his tent. He was staring at an eight-foot ceiling, so to speak. So God took him on a field trip and gave him an assignment: count the stars."(pg. 73) He goes on to right later on in this particular chapter, "Faith is not logical. But it isn't illogical either. Faith is theological. It does not ignore reality; it just adds God into the equation." (pg. 79)

Hi Pastor!

I often picture myself as Abraham's wife Sarah. Jeff and I faced that dreaded "I" word, and then watched God do his work!

As a homeschooling mom, I've got 3 pairs of eyes watching my every move. I would love to read this book to help me grow more.
