Father's Day Tribute

As this year's Father's Day nears an end, I reflect on one father who has made the greatest impact on my life. Darrell Pilcher, my dad, is one fine man. And I can say that because I know him as his only son. I am aware that for many, unfortunately, every year when Father's Day comes around, buried pains and ill-feelings emerge like a sunken rusty old ship pulled from the bottom of an ocean floor. (And, my heart goes out to such individuals as I have endeavored to share the load in many cases.) But I'm blessed to have a far different experience during this annual celebration. My dad would never claim a spot in the Fathers Hall of Fame, but in my estimation has qualified quite profoundly. His warmth, charm, generosity, compassion, authenticity, dignity, strength, faith, perseverance, are reasons just to name a few. So, here goes a tribute post to my personal hall of famer: Thanks, Dad, for the times when I needed you to speak...and you gave the piece of advice which transcended every season...and for the times when I needed you to listen...and you gave the reassuring tone that everything would be alright. I appreciate how you have exhibited an uncanny ability to weather fierce storms while maintaining a level of optimism that only comes from rich faith in God. This, as you know, has been a resource which has proven to be invaluable in my "green" ministry days. Thank you, Dad, for the way you have loved, cared for and have been sold out in loyalty to my Mom. You have given the example of how a husband should treat his wife. Yes, I'm watching. And, most importantly, thank you for the living legacy of faithfulness to the Lord of your youth. Dad, look behind you...there's a lot who are following. Happy Father's Day, Dad. I celebrate you!
