In the midst of Entertainment and Hollywood magazines, the story is still being told. Seemingly crowded by the sagas of the Kardashians and the movie Twilight, the Life of Christ is being rediscovered. It never ceases to amaze me how His Life continues to rise to the top and even mixes well with the news of the day. That might initially rub you the wrong way. But take another look… The Gospels display the life of Christ intersecting with the heroes, hustlers and heretics of society. Mixing it well is what He was known for. From celebratory wedding parties to a house full of sinners, Jesus was found right in the middle as if to emphasis relationship over religion. Does it bother Him to look down and see His face among the many media-making stories on a magazine rack? “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (John 1:14). He became flesh and dwelt among us…and them. That’s right. He couldn’t just show up in human form among those waiting for Him and not impact others. And, frankly, those waiting for Him expected a completely different set of circumstances surrounding His arrival. The mix of His Life was bewildering to those holding out for the Messiah. That’s because He made His dwelling among us and them! He made His mark because of where He was and what He did at the wedding in Cana and the party at Zaccheaus’ house. Bothered by His magazine story sandwiched among other popular stars? We should be bothered when He’s not in the mix.
