MIRACLE on the Hudson

You've probably heard by now... about the US Airways jetliner carrying 155 people that lost power in both engines after taking off Thursday from LaGuardia Airport. The report goes that the airbus, bound for Charlotte, N.C., struck a flock of birds during takeoff minutes earlier, apparently disabling the engines. But with only seconds to think and maneuver, the pilot, Captain Chesley B. Sullenberger III, landed the plane on the waters of the Hudson River. Everyone on board was rescued. And, yes, the media can't get enough of this most amazing piece of news. Local and cable networks have filled seemingly every moment with the details. But as I was just beginning to get somewhat critical of the repetition, I was challenged to wonder what really must have been going through the minds of those folks? I mean, really...a brush with eternity! What becomes important in raw life and death moments?!? Certainly it's not our political persuasion or that particular plasma screen television we have been eyeing. No doubt, there is an Unseen Player in this most amazing story...thus "Miracle on the Hudson" as it's been dubbed. But my prayer today is that I would take more minutes in a day and ask that same Unseen Player to help me to keep the main things the main things, to put the big rocks in first, and to live making decisions from that perspective.
