What makes us desire power? The strange illusion of control
keeps us expending precious energy to reach the top. And, reaching the top
means different things to different people. It can manifest in unhealthy
jealousies or unnecessary compromises. Very seldom does creating our own
throne end well.
Christ taught a seemingly upside down lifestyle: what you want to keep,
you've got to be willing to give up; if you want to be promoted, the pathway is
servanthood; to be first, get in the back of the line. Interestingly and most
profoundly, this works in marriage, family life, work, friendships and church. And
ultimately, this kind of living will dethrone you which is precisely the design!
The work of grace from Christ's sacrificial death on the cross brings death to
our fleshly desires to reign. When the right One is enthroned in our life,
everything gets better and blessed.
God's throne must be more important than our own. The one we build for our
pleasure brings eventual disgust and disaster. Until His grace dethrones us,
life will be nothing more than a fraud!
What do you need to give up in order that Christ might reign in that
area of your life?
