Dialect of the Determined

Never have I met a more determined person than my friend Betty.  She was beyond retirement years when she began to make an impact on my life.  Stricken with polio as a young woman, her hands were severely crippled and unable to be used.  Her husband clothed and fed her every day with patience.  It would seem like life would be a constant trial and joyless experience.  But she proved that sentiment wrong every time I was around her.  She embodied a thankful spirit with the smile on her face and kind words from her lips.  Betty never drew attention to her disability, but her presence was always the highlight of every gathering.  Her gratitude for God and His blessings were the continual threads in every one of her conversations.  It was evident that what Betty said effected how she felt.  She profoundly became more determined in light of her heart of gratitude.
Frankly, the most determined people that I know are more grateful than the norm.  They recognize what is worthy of gratitude when others don’t; they understand the value of appreciating present reality against where they’ve come from; they exercise a positive attitude in light of gaining a better perspective; they keep getting things done by thanking those that help them do it.
Determined people think and act differently, because they talk differently.  This should be the example of Christ-followers.  Ephesians 5: 4 in the Message Bible says, “Thanksgiving is our dialect.”  When living a language of thanksgiving, determination and courage will describe us.  Take a few moments and examine your day-to-day vocabulary.  Soon you will discover your path.  If you don’t like your path, change the way you talk.  Let gratitude become your attitude, and be more determined than ever.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

What changes do you need to make in your daily speech?
