Could there be something better than love?
Well, from a biblical standpoint, no.
To love and be loved is central to the Christian faith.
My comments are not meant to suggest that love comes second in anything we do.
Rather, I do believe that while love "covers a multitude of wrongs", one character trait could arise as the most desired...
I read a quote by George MacDonald some time back that has held a great deal of weight in my thinking as of late.
He said,
"To be trusted is a greater compliment than to be loved." There's nothing quite like the acceptance factor that love can bring in hard and arid situations.
But you can love someone unconditionally and not trust them in relationship or duty.
When you are able to trust a product, a company, a friend, a loved-one..., you are leaning on a proven track record, that in good times and bad, in strong economies and shaky markets, in rested and weak seasons, they remain the same or even stronger than the negative climate.
Their commitment to do the right thing, whether that means to embrace or abandon, does not waver.
Love may overcome the lack of trust, but being trustworthy builds strong relationships of love and respect.
What are you doing today to build trust?
