Holy Alignment

Have you ever driven a car that was out of alignment? It pulled to one side when driving down the road; the drive itself was bumpy on an otherwise smooth road; the steering wheel vibrated while driving... One bump or pothole in the road can throw a vehicle out of alignment. I don't know about you, but it doesn't take me long to find a dependable mechanic to take care of such a travel irritation. Thus the benefits of alignment: a safe and smooth transit along with a potentially longer duration on one set of tires.

Life needs a similar alignment. With the bumps and potholes along the road our life travels, priorities and a proper perspective can get skewed. Getting back into alignment for the Christ-follower first comes by acknowledging that the pull we are feeling is not healthy and can cause greater damage the longer we allow it to go. Life alignment can really only come by our yieldedness to the work of the Great Mechanic - the Holy Spirit. Humbly aligning with the heart of God is living in simple obedience to what His Word and Spirit are saying today! Yes, it starts today, knowing that this travel irritation doesn't have to continue. Change is possible and it comes by our simple trust and obedience right now! So, what is His Word and Spirit saying to you today?

Here's what Holy Alignment looks like: (in no particular order)
1. serving the less fortunate with no strings attached
This could be in your community's soup kitchen, government housing addition, nursing home, etc. What can you do today for the less fortunate?

2. sharing authentic life with other followers of Christ
Growing, intimate friendships with fellow journeyers is critical for accountability and spiritual maturity. What friendship can you begin to cultivate this week that has the potential of calling you higher?

3. seeking out relationships with those who are far from God
The only real hope of eternal life for those who are far from God is found in on-purpose relationships that Christ-followers pursue with them. With whom can you begin a strategic relationship to help bring closer to God?

4. striving for unity and love in the body of Christ
There will always be those within the Church that cause pain for other brothers and sisters in Christ. (We have that propensity to cause pain as well.) Who can we begin to forgive today in hopes to forge a level of restoration?

Here's my prayer. Feel free to use it as well...
Father God, I acknowledge that my life has been traveling with a pull to the flesh. My heart has been distracted with cares and concerns that have skewed my perspective. I humbly ask for Your help. May I not travel another mile in my life without the ability to realign and re-engage with Your Heart...in the Name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
