What are you called to do?
Do you know? It's easy to look at others and admire or critique. We can slip into the idea that someone else's "niche" in life is worth going after without even knowing much about their own personal journey. But what about you?!? There will never be another one like you. Your giftings mix and way of approaching life is not accidental. There's a reason why you are passion about this particular direction or that. The first step in discovering that specific "what" comes through a season and maybe even journey of looking at yourself. Here's some questions to consider in that season of self-examination:
(1) What tasks or assignments excite me?
(2) What makes me frustrated?
(3) What saps my energy levels even when I think about it?
(4) In what areas do I excel?
When you discover that "what", you have an opportunity to be and do exactly what was meant for you. And, the way you go about it, though your calling might be similar to others, will make you and your assignment unique to anyone else's. You are needed, your head and heart. Don't allow anyone or anything to take that away from you. Stay far from placing your abilities against others in similar fields. Comparison is self-inflicted emotional abuse. Learning from others is a good practice, but copying styles, or worse, a calling, robs uniqueness and sabotages personal contribution. Choose to be comfortable in your own skin. Know what you are called to be and do and then go live out that calling. Let's not forget this basic essential...part of working the simple formula. More to come...

Check out "Holy Discontent", written by Bill Hybels. I strongly recommend this easy read in light of grasping our personal calling.
