On one of my recent morning prayer walks, I specifically asked the Lord for a fresh revelation... I came upon a man in my neighborhood who was watering the trees in his front yard. What I noticed was something I had seen on other occasions, but with more keenness this time. He wasn't just watering the trees but rather the leaves on his trees... As I observed more closely, I recognized that much of the leaves were brown and limping. Then came the Voice inside: "This is like many churches and church-goers. They deal only with the cosmetics of Christianity. The signs of limping leaves are all around, but the personal evaluation is shallow." The challenge is to go deeper. The man wasn't dealing with the real problem. The dying leaves on his trees weren't the problem, but the obvious sign that there was a deeper issue...the nutrients at the root system.
We've made "church" about age-appropriate programs, good music, social interaction, dynamic communicating, etc. We want to get as many people into this aspect of the church or that... But, here's the question: What about life transformation? Are more people acting like Christ?
More on this later...
